bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaThis is just stunning...I love the shallow depth of field and how it brings out the detail of the flower. I also love the snowflakes, or perhaps they are falling stars. 8 Jan 2009 5:10am @bluechameleon: thx! this is the seed pod of the sweet gum [liquidamber] tree. Jean-François from LES ISSAMBRES, Franceune sublime image ........ vraiment sublime !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8 Jan 2009 5:18am JamesC from portland, United Statesf1.2 razor sharp nice details. The glowing white ball in the back dominates. 8 Jan 2009 6:08am @JamesC: thx! I tried to background the gum ball against the dark tree trunk. The white areas are snow on the ground. I was standing on a step stool, hand held @ 1:2 in a thunder snow with 25 mph gusts. [hilarious] When the lightening and thunder started, I ran inside, only got three frames : ] Half inch of snow in less than ten minutes, then it turned into a skating rink, with snow over black ice and crashes everywhere. A most unusual day. grant from kansas city, United Statesi really like this. i wish we had a companion pic of you taking it. (i think these are what we call "monkey balls" for some reason - sounds completely bizarre, possibly obscene now that i think about it.) 8 Jan 2009 12:29pm @grant: only in analog kansas : ] Chris Parr from Jefferson City, United StatesI really like the detail of the tiny snowflakes falling around it. Very delicate looking image, although clearly not taken in delicate surroundings! 8 Jan 2009 12:59pm Robert from Kingsville, CanadaReally nice image . curious if this is the sour gum tree? 8 Jan 2009 4:25pm @Robert: sour gum/black gum is nyssa, sweet gum is liquidamber.
