3600Posted by ordinaryimages (Kentucky Bluegrass, United States) on 24 March 2009 in Landscape & Rural. The old axiom was shoot a hundred rolls of film and learn the camera. I wondered what the 3600th frame on the 5D would be. I shoot digital frugally, but 3600 frames rolled up much faster than film. About 400 frames a month average contrasted by 2-4 rolls of film. Matt Sutton from Sydney, AustraliaGreat image jerry. I think its in the mind how you approach it. But digital does make you shoot more frames (files). I know shooting film we are more purposeful. I am on roll number 21 for this calendar year and they are mostly 35m frames and maybe 6 x 120m frames (12 a roll), so maybe thats about 600 or so far this year. Only digital stuff I have shot has been for other people. 24 Mar 2009 5:49am @Matt Sutton: I think its in the mind I have to have one of those...too? Gavin from Ramsau am Dachstein, AustriaI suppose it's easy to get trigger happy with digital, but these days I think more about composition once I'm sure then I hit the button and take another shot +/- if the histogram is a bit shy. Taking time is such an important aspect of photography, waiting to see in the right way, finding the picture, etc.. That what I like about it in this hectic world it makes me slow down and block out the noise. BTW Like the dark tones and shadows in your picture. 24 Mar 2009 9:46am @Gavin: thx! The picture was nothing special, just a record as it were. Gavin has a very nice Gallery...here paulski from Muncie, IN, United Statesnice shot here; love the use of the creek as foreground element. and yes, i shoot way more on digital that i would have on film. when shooting my kids sports, for example, i can easily shoot hundreds of shots, and pare them down later. never would have done that on film... 24 Mar 2009 10:37am Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesNice...Lovely scenery. I don't really keep track of how many images. I have 3 DSLR cameras and over 20,000 images archived on this computer and external HDD, and countless more on another HDD that I use on assignments. I have stacks of images archived on disks from a few years back...I'd have to check my actual shutter actuations for a count. I don't keep images that fail in terms of focus and exposure, they get dumped immediately. So it is probably a lot...lol I'm not as trigger happy as I used to be I suppose. 24 Mar 2009 11:20am @Laurie: thx! I moved all my archive CD's to redundant external HDD's organized by year and store the redundant drive in an offsite safe. I imported the archive into Lightroom 2 as a catalog for viewing, then mount the archive drives for use. Over football season I got them keyworded in Lightroom : ] dogilicious from Millerstown, PA, United StatesI'm not sure how much a shoot but I did have o buy a new computer with more storage because I packed the old one full of RAW! I like the way the stream in this one leads the eye through the shot. Nicely done. 24 Mar 2009 12:32pm @dogilicious: thx! I did have o buy a new computer drastic action : ] john4jack from Corvallis, United StatesBeautiful scene. Love the meandering stream and the fence. Don't know how many, Jerry, but I am cranking out about 8-9 GB a month that I don't trash; cheap external HDs tend to make one lazy. 24 Mar 2009 2:50pm @john4jack: thx! Measured in Gb's [or Tb's : ] rather than frames...what are we coming to. Richard_Irwin from Belper, United KingdomFor me, when I first got digital the ratio was about 100:1, but thats been dropping, so that now I shot about the same number of digitals to film frames. I kind of re-found my love of film. 24 Mar 2009 6:23pm Francisco Díaz from Palma de Mallorca, SpainVery good b/w with a special light. The trees, fence, road... creates a very good composition of lines. 24 Mar 2009 6:26pm grant from kansas city, United Statesi like the pic, especially with that little nearly hidden building. and it's an interesting thought, how digital vs. film influences the number of pictures taken. (i buy a five back of 120 film about twice a month - 60 to 75 shots, depending on the camera.) 24 Mar 2009 8:34pm Fishit from Tealtown, United Stateslove you use of light and shadows, looks very Kentucky ... best dennis 25 Mar 2009 1:09am Line from Chambly, CanadaUn noir profond qui donne du relief au paysage. 30 Mar 2009 12:30am shallowregret from Kongsberg, Norwayi shoot close to ten times as much, still getting about the same amount of keepers. Find i do shoot in a lot of situations i wouldn´t shoot in before, but a lot of throwaways. Don´t think i´ll go back though, digital is so convenient. 1 Apr 2009 5:39pm tokyo-drifter from Tokyo, JapanI've wondered the same thing. I plan to scoop up a dSLR in the next couple of months, and wonder if I'll retain the discipline I have with my camera now. Film and development costs are one factor in reducing the number of shots I shoot to get a picture I want, but, advancing the film after each shot probably has a big influence on it, too. 6 Apr 2009 12:04am |
