HarveyPosted by ordinaryimages (Kentucky Bluegrass, United States) on 7 September 2009 in People & Portrait. Ol' Harvey is a pound dog with a great personality. Family events present me with the biggest camera control challenge—constantly moving indoors and outdoors. Here I got caught with my 2:8 indoor setting. I threaten to jack the ISO and shoot in Program : ] What's your experience? Creative Commons Attribution | Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 | United States License

Paco Díaz from Palma de Mallorca, SpainGreat sharpness in the face of this dog that looks very lively. I like the composition with the smiling woman in second level. You did it perfect! 7 Sep 2009 5:57am GJC from Kyoto (京都), JapanWhat a charming double-portrait. The DOF really gives this a nice depth. 7 Sep 2009 6:09am Dulcie from Danville, CA, United StatesI like both portraits. Both have lovely details and character, but I find the smoother softer focus of the woman disconcerting, too separate and unlike the dog. Well, of course she is unlike the dog, but you know what I mean...I hope. :-) 7 Sep 2009 6:33am @Dulcie: Some will like the soft look, but it wasn't what I intended. :] I threw the camera up and shot this one with my previous indoor settings. After this grab I quickly reset to the requisite F:8 but didn't get a single keeper. My point is there were three different setting necessary for levels of natural light I encountered, but i would rather look for gesture than continuously play with the settings. Next time ISO 1250 and Program. rumbarber from Berlin, GermanyFantastic - overflowing with personality and the expressions are spot on! 7 Sep 2009 10:38am Stewart Bywater from Peterborough, United KingdomLovely portrait. It really brought a smile to my face! 7 Sep 2009 12:36pm Claudia from Illinois, United StatesI love the DOF here. What a great portrait. Both of their smiles are infectious and I am completely in love with Harvey!! Wonderful! 7 Sep 2009 2:43pm Ronnie 2¢ from Atlantic Shores, United KingdomThe dog looks like he can see the settings are not right . . y'd think he would have said something ! 7 Sep 2009 4:06pm @Ronnie 2¢: Hiked his leg on me shoe... john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United StatesTerrific capture. I find that switching to Program and Continuous enables fast shooting which means trashing a lot but I'm much more apt to get a few winners. 7 Sep 2009 4:51pm jeff (aka dogilicious) from Millerstown, PA, United StatesI like the way it came out with the focus on the dog. 7 Sep 2009 6:16pm Viewfinder from Bradenton, FL, United StatesI think it's perfect; Harvey is the center of the show. It looks to me like that was the intention. If so, mission accomplished! 7 Sep 2009 6:59pm Sarah from Suisse, SwitzerlandFabulous shot - both beings have beautiful smiles!! 7 Sep 2009 10:31pm huffbrau from Marietta, United Statesshows mastery of composition...real smiles, not posed....which means a first shot winner..congrats! 8 Sep 2009 1:05am Lambspun from Madison, Maine, United StatesGrand smile on both your subjects! Incredible natural shots. Thumbs up!! 8 Sep 2009 1:48am Shrigley Photography from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United StatesOrdinary Images? I think you're being modest. These photos are quite good. I love how Harvey is in focus and they lovely woman is still completely in the photo while being just slightly out of focus. Well shot. 8 Sep 2009 2:57pm shoti from Everywhere in the, Philippineswhat a wonderful double portrait. just priceless. 9 Sep 2009 9:36am huffbrau from Marietta, United Statesagain, proof that a puppy and a pretty woman is all that a photo needs ;) 9 Sep 2009 2:57pm Chris Parr from Jefferson City, United StatesI've missed some shots that I probably could have caught if I had switched to program. If you believe that it's the photographer's eye and not the equipment or settings that make the difference, then there shouldn't be any shame in doing it. ...I should follow my own advice. I like this image though. My assumption was that Harvey is the primary subject, so he's a bit clearer and in the foreground. 14 Sep 2009 8:55pm |
