redbud - rainPosted by ordinaryimages (Kentucky Bluegrass, United States) on 9 September 2009 in Plant & Nature. Like everyone—who knows better—I go through periods where I think everything I shoot sucks, that everything is over processed, that I have lost my vision. Then..I keep pressing the shutter...and consider myself uniquely qualified for a congressional run. Creative Commons Attribution | Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 | United States License

Dulcie from Danville, CA, United StatesThis is a sparkling translucent shot. And it ALMOST makes me ready for some autumn rain. I so identify with the lines you wrote....and I thought I was the only one who felt that way. Hope you have good fog tomorrow. Have to say the high hot sun and clear bright days here are putting a crimp in my photo sessions! Coming from Washington State, I never thought I'd hear myself yearn for some good old "weather!" 9 Sep 2009 6:22am @Dulcie: Thanks! An overnight rain washed away the fog. I got up at zero dark 30, looked out the window, then crawled back in the bed : ] When confronted with bright clear days I head to deep shadow - early, late, and night, but I was just thinking how I would shoot in the desert etc. It takes me several days to adjust to the light of a different locale. shoti from Everywhere in the, Philippinesfantastic b&w. the contrast is immense and the lines are exciting. wonderful work. 9 Sep 2009 9:31am @Fishit: Minutes after a heavy rain. ripple from Nottingham, United Kingdomlovely one. I have avery similar one coming up in a few days- Doing a rain theme- next Monday. It works really well in black and white 9 Sep 2009 12:44pm @ripple: Thanks! We've had so much rain this year...I'm getting plenty of practice : ] hugo poon from hong kong, Hong KongA beautifully refreshing pic Jerry!:-) When I experienced a similar 'mental slump' a while ago, a wonderful friend showed me a pretty good story, really worth reading: http://www.lawrenceripsher.com/blog/2007/04/photography_is_.html 9 Sep 2009 2:12pm john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United StatesExquisite detail in the drops. On quality, one of the things that I have noticed is the professionals on Am3 don't post every day, and what they do post is well worth viewing. 9 Sep 2009 3:12pm @john4jack: Very true, as contrasted by a daily photoblog and having something better to do with their time : ] I like the daily examination of a photoblog, particularly the post mortem assessments. For instance in Rats!! I learned that had I been nimble enough to "drag the shutter", the implied motion contrasted by the fixed reflection would have made for a more interesting frame. Had I not needed a shot for that day, I would not have taken the opportunity to reflect on an image I would normally have tossed. Viewfinder from Bradenton, FL, United StatesI totally relate to your post story. Am there most of the time, unless I have been somewhere new. I have dredged the archives, am sick to death of just beach shots and sunsets here at home. Can't get a butterfly to land on a single flower in my yard, am yearning to travel more (didn't have digital when we lived in KY). Can't. Haven't been home to New Orleans in a couple of years. But I'm a daily poster here, whose shot quality is definitely a mixed bag. But the good thing is I feel I've made a lot of friends along the way, and maybe kind of learned a thing or two about picture taking and processing. Once in a while it shows... So you think it's to Congress we must go? 9 Sep 2009 7:08pm Viewfinder from Bradenton, FL, United StatesBy the way, this photo is outstanding. I love the bw contrast and the jewels of water droplets on the redbud leaves. 9 Sep 2009 7:09pm john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United StatesMuch relates to ones objectives. If your goal is to learn and grow, then posting everyday would seem to be the way to go. 9 Sep 2009 9:03pm @john4jack: Or...one could join a Twelve Step program : ] Lambspun from Madison, Maine, United States"Like everyone—who knows better—I go through periods where I think everything I shoot sucks".....that's when you need us to tell you differently!.......awesome black and white :) 10 Sep 2009 11:46pm Chris Parr from Jefferson City, United StatesI know that feeling. No matter how much we shoot and how good our images are, we are capable of better. That can be what drives you or what locks you down...depending on the day. 14 Sep 2009 9:19pm |
